The Black Data Guy: STEM Modules for Children of Color

    Kwesi McDavid

Former Math Teacher NYC Public Schools

As a public school teacher, I developed hands-on exercises that were designed to give the students the real world experience. We built websites, analyzed the stock market, raced go-karts, and many other FUN things. The more they enjoyed my classes the better they did on my tests.

    Our Mission

    Every child is special. For
some reason there exists an achievement gap in Math and Science for Black and Latino children. Our mission is to close
this achievement gap. The achievement gap is really a
    gap in confidence and
    resources. Our STEM modules
    are designed to supplement
the resources that many schools may lack. We build academic confidence by giving the students the resources they need.

    Academic Rigor

    STEM Modules that supplement

Without academic rigor we will not close the math and science achievement gap that Black and Latino children have in America. In recent years people have attacked the concept of testing. Do we want our surgeons and lawyers not to pass tests?

    Creativity

    Unlock intrinsic desire to learn

Creativity is our key element to inspire our students to learn. Creativity is an essential part of all academic experiences. By giving the children hands on experiences, we literally allow them to work the anxiety out of their fingers and help them to focus.

    Fun and Joy

    Two educational tools

Sometimes the most obvious solutions are hard to find. Fun is powerful educational tool. But fun must be aligned with an activity from which we can learn something academic if we want to achieve our goals as educators. Please see how we successfully combine the two.
